Prakash Pustakalaya was established in the year 2014 BS. Then Prime Minister of Nepal B.P. Koirala and Home Minister, Ganesh Man Singh Shrestha provided the funds for the construction of library building on the request of Ram Gopal Dhunju Shrestha, son of a well known social worker of Shreekhandapur, Krishna Gopal Dhunju Shrestha. Prem Raj Angdev, then Education Minister of Nepal in the year 2017 BS, laid foundation stone of the library building. All the community people of Shreekhandapur equally contributed to the operation of the library. It is evident from the visitor books and some available pictures that renowned literary personnels such as Siddhicharan Shrestha, Chittadhar ‘Hridaya’, Bhupi Sherchan, Kedarman Byathit, Grisma Bahadur Devkota, Krishna Prasad Parajuli and others visited the library.

The library committee organised ‘Sahitya Sammelan’ (A Grand Literary Conference) in the year 2024 BS, Kartik 24 and 25. In the committee of the conference were Ashok Chandra Dhunju, Sriom Dhunju, Govindal Lal Pradhananga, Punya Lal Pradhananga, Dil Gopal Dhunju, Hera Kaji Shrestha, Punya Lal Dhunju, Lal Kaji Dhunju, Gyan Bahadaur Shrestha, Mangal Krishna Dhunju and Sitaram Mahaju. On the first day, the political personaility Bhimnath Dhunju and on the second day Dharmaratna Yami headed the conference. In the conference famous personlities Siddhicharan Shrestha, Chittadhar 'Hridaya', Durga Lal Shrestha, Prem Bahadur Kasha, Ashwo Ghosh, Govinda Bhatta, Krishna Prasad Duwal and others presented their speeches.

Books for the library were provided by the local people, American and Indian embassies and other organizations. There were thousands of books and many of them were in Nepali and Newari. At present there seems to be no records of the books that were the assets of the library.
